英伦三岛的诗人中亦有写马入诗者,如司各特(Scott)的On the mountain dawns the day; / All the jolly chase is here / With hawk and horse and hunting-spear; / Hounds are in there couples yelling.又如拜伦(Byron)的And there was mounting in hot haste; the steed, / The mustering squadron, and the clattering car / Went pouring forward with impetuous speed, / And swiftly forming in the ranks of war.前者写的是行猎,后者写的是战争。透过这一行行的诗句,人们可以感受到行猎的愉悦,亦可领会到战争的轰烈。
美国人魏博思等曾将王维写马句译为:Keen are the falco's eyes above the withered grasses / And light the horses' hoofbeats in the melted snow. 将杜甫写马句译为:Chariots rumble, horses neigh, / As they who must depart strap on their weapons. 显而易见,译诗颇具几分洋味。笔者冒昧,亦将司各特句与拜伦句分别易为仿中国传统的五言和七言:“山林正拂晓,群犬吠声高;鹰飞马蹄疾,猎手舞长矛。”“翻身上马急匆匆,骑兵炮车闹腾腾;飞流直入疆场里,队成八阵一瞬中。”常言道,入乡随俗。窃以为,旅居如是,翻译亦当如是矣!
